As a woman in business I like to support other female run businesses, and especially at this time of year. So this year I have found a small local business run by medical herbalist Karen Ballantyne for my gifts to clients and colleagues. She makes fabulous organic and fair trade creams for your skin and is dedicated to creating small perfect batches of product. As she says “I count out every drop of essential oil, stir each batch of soap, infuse oils with herbs; even cut labels up” I really love this attention to detail. Businesses run by women often have this passion and attention to the fine details. A word of caution here though – if you are a business owner just make sure you you don’t get bogged down by the small things and fail to work on the business rather than just in it. With the female tendency to serve we often think we have to do everything, but it’s important to know when it makes more sense to outsource tasks. Think about what that hour of admin is costing if you do it rather than outsourcing it to someone else who’s hourly rate is much lower than yours. Ease the guilt of not doing it yourself by remembering that you are helping the economy and another individual by employing them. This is a great time of year to plan how you will do things in the New Year and if you still have gifts to buy my book or Masterclass may be the perfect solution and you still have a week to beat the Vat rise. In the meantime I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
