I once heard a motivational speaker say that unless a new job feels scary, it’s not a big enough stretch. If you are ambitiously moving up a career ladder (even if you can’t see all of the rungs ahead of you) I would wholeheartedly agree with this statement. We often play it safe and make baby steps towards promotion, when sometimes biting off more than you initially think you can chew, offers the best opportunities for growth and to avoid career, not to mention mental, stagnation.
The learning curve may be steep, but do you remember how out of your depth you felt when you took the job you are now in? We often forget how big a past challenge was when confronted with another, we minimise the last step we took precisely because we have already taken it.
