People often ask me how to respond to the last question of every job interview – "And do you have any questions for us?" We often painstakingly prepare the answers to every conceivable questiion they could throw at us, only to blank out when asked this simple, yet vital question. One great response, that will shed light on the office atmosphere more than any "corporate speak" answer ever could is "Could you show me where I would be working should I get the job?". Candidates often don’t get a chance to see the environment they could be spending a majority of their waking hours. A quick tour will give you the opportunity to see firsthand what working for the organisation is really like. Are people chatting? Are doors closed or open? Is there a good buzz of energy in the staff? How are they dressed? Are you comfortable with the mix? Where are the women? A question like this shows you are truly interested in the job as well as potentially shed light on whether it is the right atmosphere for you.
