The Gender Wage Gap Narrows – But It’s Not All Good News!

Here is some interesting research from Forbes about the gender wage gap; surprisingly it says single, childless women in their 20s now earn 8% more than their male peers, this could be because young women are now outperforming young men in college, receiving 60% of all Bachelors and masters Degrees. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that the wage gap between men and women has narrowed so dramatically that it is now the smallest on record. However, there have been big cuts in male dominated fields of construction and manufacturing and a rise in growth of female dominated fields such as healthcare. Whilst this is all good news it is still a fact that on average women earn only 83% of what men earn, and that if these young women have families their career and earning prospects take a significant dip.
