US Unemployment Rates Mask Dire Prospects for Women

Resume According to The New York Times, the US unemployment rate in December has now reached a high of 6.7%, but what is even more depressing is that the rate still makes the job market look better than it really is – especially for women. The unemployment rate reached its highest point since 1993, and overall employment fell by more than a half million jobs., however thanks to the vagaries of the way that the government’s best-known jobs statistics are calculated, they have overlooked many workers – including women who want to return to work, who have been deeply affected by the current recession. The share of women with jobs is lower than it was eight years ago, which never happened in previous decades. Worrying stuff for those women who want to work and contribute to rebuildng the global economy – a job that needs all hands on deck.
