Today I sent out over 100 return postcards to the people at the Microsoft and Women in Technology event where I delivered a speech on "Working Smarter, Not Harder" on April 1st. Participants were asked to write down three things they committed to for working smarter, not harder during the month of April with the knowledge that list would be returning to a post box near them in one month’s time – if they so chose! I have used this exercise many times before and had women tell me that it was the accountability to themselves that made them take charge of the commitments they had made. If you received your postcard this weekend – I would love to hear from you, so post your comments below. Are the things you felt important on April 1 still important? How far had you made inroads on your particular challenges? Had you forgotten the postcard was coming – but still did the actions anyway? And most importantly, what did you learn about yourself? Oh, and if you would like a reminder of some of the "home truths" we discussed on the night – click the video screen on the right hand side of this website, as it is a short video clip of my presentation and may help jog your memory as to why you wrote the commitments you did!
