As I watched yesterday's presidential inauguration, I couldn't help but wonder what Obama's presidency will mean for women in science. Certainly he has identified the sciences as a key industry for growth. He has also made noises that he is committed to gender equality in these fields that desperately need a strong leader who means business. However, he has yet to appoint any women as his key scientific advisors, even though there are many esteemed female scientists who would no doubt be an asset to him.
