It is dismaying to read yesterday’s report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) which found that in 12 of 25 job categories it studied, there were fewer women holding top posts since this time a year ago. The gains in the number of women who were company directors and in senior positions in the civil service were negated by overall losses in the number of women MP’s, senior police officers and judges, national newspaper editors, and executives in the NHS, trade unions and professional bodies.
The EHRC even used the term "concrete ceiling" rather than "glass ceiling" to describe the situation many women face. What do you think is going on? Is there a ceiling above your head and if so, does it feel more like concrete or glass? For the whole article from the BBC, click here.
